In response to the Bureau of Land Management's renewal of hardrock mineral leases in the Superior National Forest today, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement:
The House Appropriations Committee today released the draft fiscal year 2020 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies funding bill, which will be considered in subcommittee on Wednesday, May 15, at 2pm ET/1pm CT. The legislation includes funding for programs within the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other related agencies, including the Indian Health Service.

We assure them of clearly defined benefits that are guaranteed upon completion of their service. Unfortunately, for many veterans of the Vietnam era who served offshore of the Republic of Vietnam, our government fell short of this solemn duty.

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) today joined House Appropriations Democrats in voting to approve the FY 2020 Military Construction-Veterans Affairs funding bill. The investments in this legislation ensures that our military has the facilities needed to meet current and emerging threats, veterans have access to the quality care and services they've earned, and families have access to clean and safe housing.
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) today joined House Appropriations Democrats in voting to approve the FY 2020 Legislative Branch bill, needed investments in Congress and good governance, so that legislators can work effectively on behalf of their constituents.
The Legislative Branch bill includes $3.972 billion in discretionary funding, an increase of $164 million more than in FY 2019. The bill includes provisions important to Minnesotans and the American people:

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) today announced the winners of her 2019 Congressional Art Competition. Aishat Adedayo of Northfield High School took first place for her artwork, "Untitled Portrait." Ntxhaisnag Khang, also of North High School, finished in second place with "Baby's Tears," while Anna Muellner of Woodbury High School finished third with "Writer's Block." Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) has introduced legislation— the Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, H.R. 2407 — amending a provision of the Foreign Assistance Act known as the "Leahy Law" to prohibit funding for the military detention of children in any country, including Israel.
Madame Speaker, it is my hope that Members of Congress and the American people can stand united in the belief that justice, human dignity, and human rights are values we share and promote. Certainly, when it comes to protecting the rights of children we should be able to find universal agreement that ensuring their safety and well-being is a priority.
