McCollum Statement on the 18th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

September 11, 2019

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today on the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:

"On the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, an entire generation of Americans has lived in a world shaped by the threat of terrorism. As we remember the tragedy and pain we felt as a nation on that day, we pray for the victims, their families, and their communities, who will never be forgotten. On this day, we reflect on the values and principles of the U.S. Constitution – freedom, liberty, and equality for all – and recommit to defending them on U.S. soil and abroad.

"Today, as we face the frightening rise of global extremism and hate at home and around the world, it's more important than ever that we all stand together as Americans in our shared commitment to freedom and democracy. As a nation, we all must demand leadership that represents our values to the rest of the world and stands with our intelligence community, U.S. service members, and diplomatic corps who risk their lives every day to defend our freedom."
