Passports

Passports are essential for international travel: Anyone traveling by air is required to present a passport book to enter or re-enter the United States, while anyone traveling by land or sea is required to present a passport book or a passport card. Foreign countries may have additional entry and exit requirements for visitors, which you can learn about here(link is external).

To begin your passport application, you may visit the Department of State Travel website(link is external), which offers information on requirements, forms, processing times, passport renewals, lost passports, and an on-line status check. You may also call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778/1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY) for more information. A first-time applicant must apply in person at a passport acceptance agency. A searchable list of passport acceptance facilities, which includes many post offices and government service centers, is available here(link is external).

Provided you meet certain urgent or emergency travel requirements, you may be able to obtain a passport from the Minneapolis Regional Passport Agency(link is external). However, this agency is not a general passport processing or application acceptance facility. The agency is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, you may call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778/ 1-888-874-7793 (TDD/TTY).

If you have questions about the passport application process, or you encounter issues during the process, please call my St. Paul office at 651-224-9191 for assistance.
