The Commander-in-Chief, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Secretary of Defense all publicly support allowing gay and lesbian Americans to serve openly in the Armed Forces of the United States. This is a significant and long overdue development that I wholeheartedly endorse. It is time for Congress to now act to ensure that every committed and courageous American who wishes to serve our country, regardless of sexual orientation, can proudly wear the uniform of the United States of America.

Today on the eighth anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor the memory of the victims, extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims’ families, and recognize the heroism and courage displayed during rescue and recovery missions. It is a day none of us will ever forget.
Our response to the attacks of September 11, 2001 will define the meaning of that terrible day, and it will define us as a country. While we remain focused on preserving America’s security, we must be equally resolute in our commitment to protect the values and character that define America.
Save the Date: McCollum Announces Dedication Ceremony for Mayor Sandberg Post Office on June 22
Congresswoman McCollum will host a rededication ceremony on Monday June 22, at 10:30am to posthumously rename the North St. Paul Post Office after Mayor William “Bill” Sandberg, who passed away on April 20, 2008. Last June, Congresswoman McCollum introduced H.R. 6229 to rename the North St. Paul Post Office. The legislation was passed in the House and Senate and signed into law.
