October 11 was the first International Day of the Girl Child, which celebrates the advocacy for girls' rights and young women everywhere. On this day, we acknowledge the many advancements made to help fight against destructive gender inequalities.
ST. PAUL, MN, OCTOBER 12, 2012 — With the aid of federal and state grants, and a generous partnership with the City of Saint Paul, Ramsey County has installed 35 Minnesota-made solar thermal panels on the roof of the Law Enforcement Center in St. Paul. These panels will generate 40 percent of the facility’s annual hot water needs. The $230,000 project will help Ramsey County broaden its energy sources and fits with the Energy Management and Stewardship Plan that the Ramsey County Board adopted in March 2011.

Obama, Congressional Democrats Continue Fight to Create Jobs
Chicago (Oct. 4, 2012) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today announced a $1.4 million Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grant to the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to reduce mercury exposure risk for women and children who live along Lake Superior’s north shore. Excessive blood mercury levels have been documented in infants in this area. The funding will be used to improve health screening and to develop more effective fish consumption advisories.
Mr. Speaker, I rise today in strong support of H.Res. 786. I join President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton and my colleagues in Congress in condemning these attacks in the strongest possible terms. The attacks on our embassies in Cairo, Egypt and Sana, Yemen and the violent assault on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya were shocking and unacceptable.
Mr. Speaker, I rise in opposition to H.R. 5912. This is a misguided bill that repeals public financing of our national political conventions and allows moneyed special-interests to complete their corporate buyout of America’s electoral process.

I am proud to hail from the Land of 10,000 Lakes. A state fortunate to have as much water above as below. And home to the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area located in the middle of a bustling urban setting.
