I’m so happy to be here today and so proud of the movement you are leading. This alliance is proof that we don’t have to choose between a healthy economy and a healthy planet. We can provide good jobs in the green economy. We can pursue a path using the power of American manufacturing to secure America’s energy independence.

Thank you all for having me here to speak with you today. Thank you for the introduction, and thank you to NIEA’s President, Dr. Heather Shotton, for the invitation.
It is always an honor to speak at this summit because it brings together such a dedicated group of leaders, educators, and young people.
In 2012, our country suffered 16 mass shootings with 151 fatalities. The brutal trend is a symptom of a larger problem: widespread gun violence. All Members of Congress have a duty to their constituents to address specific legal loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to commit violent acts with guns.
Throughout the 113th Congress, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) will advocate for legislation aimed at making our communities safer while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.

Thank you so much Jim. And good morning to everyone! This is a great day for St. Paul, for the East Metro, and for our entire region.
Many of us were filled with memories as we passed through the doors today. I remember coming to the Union Depot as a young girl to take the train to Montana to visit my grandfather. The majesty of this space filled me with wonder, and left an impression I carried with me my whole life.
Good morning. Admiral Donald, Mrs. Roughead, distinguished guests, officers and crew of the USS Minnesota: it is an honor to be with you representing the great state of Minnesota.
Today’s christening is a special event for my state.
I know Minnesotans will share tremendous pride in the USS Minnesota as it becomes the newest vessel in the most powerful naval fleet the world has ever known.
October 11 was the first International Day of the Girl Child, which celebrates the advocacy for girls' rights and young women everywhere. On this day, we acknowledge the many advancements made to help fight against destructive gender inequalities.
