Washington, DC - Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) joined 23 other Members of Congress in support of legislation that would give subpoena power to the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling (H.R. 5481). The power to issue subpoenas would be part of the Commission's investigation. The ability to issue subpoenas will help the Commission get a full and accurate accounting of what caused the BP oil rig explosion and subsequent oil spill.

Washington, DC - On Tuesday, June 8, 2010, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) and Congressman Keith Ellison (MN-05) introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, H.Res.1426, requesting that the Rwandan government release Peter Erlinder from prison so he may immediately return to the United States. Congresswoman McCollum believes his release is important to ongoing positive U.S.-Rwandan relations.

The repeal finally put an end to the military's process of systemic discrimination against individuals who are openly gay and lesbian.

On May 27, 2010, when the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" vote was announced in the House chamber, Congresswoman McCollum presided as Speaker pro tempore in the House of Representatives.
