WASHINGTON, D.C.  — Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04), Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, released the following statement after voting in favor of a three-month continuing resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday evening, the House of Representatives voted in a bipartisan fashion to reject Republicans’ extreme continuing resolution (CR) that would have curtailed Americans’ voting rights while providing insufficient funding for key agencies and government functions. The proposal failed on a vote of 202-220.

“Twenty-three years ago today, the United States endured an unimaginable tragedy on September 11, 2001. Today, we honor those who died, the courage of the heroes who responded, and the American people whose spirit lives on.  

Following news reports of the death of six hostages in Gaza, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following statement:

"Hamas’ murder of Israeli-American citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other Israeli hostages is devastating. My heart goes out to their families. I stand with families demanding that the Netanyahu government reach a hostage release and ceasefire agreement immediately. The remaining hostages must come home alive, and the unbearable conflict in Gaza must end."
