WASHINGTON (January 16, 2013) – A contingent of 12 Members of the House of Representatives today filed an amicus brief in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in support of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Resource Extraction Rule. The rule is based on a provision in the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
In 2012, our country suffered 16 mass shootings with 151 fatalities. The brutal trend is a symptom of a larger problem: widespread gun violence. All Members of Congress have a duty to their constituents to address specific legal loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to commit violent acts with guns.
As we begin the 113th Congress, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) supports legislation aimed at making our communities safer while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
