Appropriations & Budget
Crafting a federal budget that fosters economic opportunity, invests in the future, and upholds fiscal responsibility is one of Congress' most important roles. As a member of the powerful Appropriations Committee, I work every day to bring a common sense, Minnesota perspective to our federal budget.
As Chair of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, I work to ensure that our service members are the most skilled and best trained and equipped fighting force in the world. As the Chair of the Interior-Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, I have prioritized protecting clean air and water, wild lands, and our nation's natural and cultural legacy for future generations.

House GOP Budget Proposals Would Kill Federal Support for ALL Future Twin Cities Transit Projects
Today, in the House Budget Committee we are debating the GOP/Ryan Budget for 2013 which the Washington Post called, "dangerously wrong for the country." Washington, DC – Tonight, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following response to President Obama's State of the Union address to Congress.
Mr. Speaker, I rise today in opposition to the so-called Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act (H.R. 3630). The title of this bill is misleading at best. H.R. 3630 does not create jobs or relieve the struggles of the middle class. Instead, it drastically reduces federal benefits for the unemployed and slashes health care funding by over $17 billion. Moreover, it contains highly partisan and controversial policy riders that would have no chance of becoming law if considered under regular order.
