My fellow Democrats and I in the U.S. House are defending civil rights, the rule of law, and the Constitution against illegal actions taken by unelected billionaire Elon Musk and his enabler President Trump.  As a Member of Congress, I do not have standing to file lawsuits against the federal government. Only the Speaker of the House can file lawsuits on behalf of Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Democrats across the country, as well as health care providers and advocates, are highlighting the negative impacts that face seniors, children, and working parents if the House Republican budget becomes law. Republicans’ budget sets up billions of dollars of cuts to Medicaid in order to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and large corporations.

Statements For the Record

Mr. Speaker, in the last election, then-candidate Trump ran on lowering costs for American families. He owned the issue on the campaign trail, and he won. I had hoped that he would follow through on his promise to “lower costs on day one.” But instead of working to lower costs, the President has waged an unprompted trade war with Canada that will cost Americans when they heat their homes, feed their families, run their small businesses, or tend to their farm.

Issues: Foreign Affairs

I will be hosting a virtual town hall on Wednesday, March 19th at 6:30pm CT on Facebook and Instagram. I will discuss my ongoing work in Washington, D.C. to combat the illegal and unconstitutional actions taken by President Trump and Elon Musk; discuss the Republican budget and funding bills; and take questions from constituents.
