Washington, DC – Tonight, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following response to President Obama’s State of the Union address.

February 11, 2013 Speech

In 2012, our country suffered 16 mass shootings with 151 fatalities.  The brutal trend is a symptom of a larger problem: widespread gun violence.  All Members of Congress have a duty to their constituents to address specific legal loopholes that allow dangerous individuals to commit violent acts with guns.

Throughout the 113th Congress, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) will advocate for legislation aimed at making our communities safer while protecting the rights of responsible gun owners.
