Statement on the Debt Ceiling Agreement

February 11, 2014

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN) released the following statement today in response to the news that Republican Leadership would bring a clean bill to raise our nation’s debt ceiling up for a vote:

“I am glad to see that we have rejected the Tea Party brinksmanship that has become common on this issue in recent years, and will have a vote on a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling. A clean bill will have my support. For the sake of our economy, we must reject the idea that our country’s fiscal security is something for either party to use as a bargaining chip. Paying our nation’s bills is the responsible thing to do and I urge all of my colleagues, Democrats and Republicans, to join me in voting yes.”

Congresswoman Betty McCollum serves on the House Appropriations Committee. She is Democratic Co-Chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus.
