Washington, DC – Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following statement on the passing of Congressman Donald Payne (D-NJ).

"Today, the U.S. House and the American people lost a statesman and a dedicated leader committed to human rights, quality education, and social justice – at home and around the world. It was my honor to serve with Rep. Payne on the Africa Subcommittee, as well as the Education and Workforce Committee. I will always remember Donald as a friend, a gentleman, and a kind soul who spoke with authority and legislated on behalf of those who were too often voiceless. My deepest condolences go out to Donald's family, his staff, and his New Jersey constituents."
