McCollum Statement on the Fiscal Year 2014 Omnibus

January 15, 2014

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN) released the following statement on the Consolidated Appropriations Act, Fiscal Year 2014 (H.R. 3547):

“Today’s omnibus appropriations bill is an important step forward to fund the federal government and meet the needs of the American people. It is far from a perfect bill, but it does blunt many of the worst cuts from sequestration that have needlessly harmed too many families and communities. This bill provides a minimal level of funding for health care, transportation, education, protecting our environment and national security. However, meeting the ongoing challenges facing our country will require real investment.

“Passage of this bill today signifies a victory for common-sense from members of both parties who are committed to sustaining the important role of the federal government. As we begin work on the appropriations bills for fiscal year 2015, I look forward to working with my colleagues to fight for the priorities that are important to Minnesota families.”

Congresswoman Betty McCollum serves on the House Appropriations Committee. She is Democratic Co-Chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus.
