McCollum Statement on Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Washington, DC – Today, President Obama announced that he would take new steps to address our nation’s broken system of immigration in light of Congressional inaction. Congresswoman Betty McCollum (D-MN) released the following statement in response:
“President Obama’s decision to take unilateral action to fix our nation’s broken immigration system is welcome news. I share his frustration with Republicans in the House of Representatives and their refusal to allow a vote on the comprehensive immigration reform bill that has already passed the Senate.
“Real solutions for securing our borders, a pathway to citizenship and ways for highly-skilled workers to enter our economy are ideas that have broad support from the faith, business, labor, and law enforcement communities. Yet, Speaker Boehner and his Tea Party colleagues refuse to act.
“The American people have made it very clear that they support comprehensive immigration reform and it is time to insist that politicians do the same.”
Congresswoman Betty McCollum serves on the House Appropriations Committee. She is Democratic Co-Chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus.
