McCollum Statement on Central States Pension Fund
The Treasury Department’s rejection of a proposed plan to cut retirement benefits to over 400,000 workers and retirees of the Teamsters’ Central States Pension Fund provides Congress needed time to fix this problem and stabilize this fund. With the retirement security of 22,000 Minnesotans on the line I don’t want to see promises broken or retirees forced into poverty.
I am one of 47 members co-sponsoring the “Keep Our Pension Promises Act” (H.R. 2844) which was introduced by my colleague Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH). Passing this legislation is an important step toward protecting pensions and the retirement security earned by hard working Americans. The Teamsters who have their retirements invested in the Central States Pension deserve our help and I am proud to stand with them.
