McCollum Commends Supreme Court Decision to Decline Appeals to Marriage Equality Victories

October 6, 2014

Saint Paul, MN – This morning, the United States Supreme Court allowed lower court rulings in favor of same-sex marriage to stand unchallenged, leading to the immediate recognition of marriage equality in Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia, and Wisconsin. Eventually, this decision will lead to marriage equality in thirty states and the District of Columbia. In response, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) issued the following statement:

“Today’s action by the Supreme Court is a huge step forward in the movement towards marriage equality. Loving same-sex couples will now be free to marry in these states. All couples deserve equal recognition under the law, and the Court moved our nation closer to that goal today.”

Congresswoman Betty McCollum serves on the House Appropriations Committee.

She is Democratic Co-Chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus.
