McCollum Statement on Voting to Advance Budget Resolution, Infrastructure Bill
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today after voting to approve the combined rule to consider together S.Con.Res. 14, the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2022, and the Senate Amendment to H.R. 3684, to pave the way for consideration of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“Today House Democrats have taken a key step to advance historic legislation to invest in both our physical and human infrastructure: in America’s roads and bridges, and also in our health and caregiving systems, the weaknesses of which have become even more apparent during the pandemic. Today’s vote starts the process for investing in building and sustaining a society with healthy families, strong communities, and a successful economy for all. Democrats are committed to improving people’s lives. It is appalling that Republicans – who have always been willing to cut taxes for the richest few – refuse to join us in investing in the majority of Americans who will benefit from these bills.”
- The Build Back Better plan will deliver more jobs, a fair and balanced tax system, and lower costs, doing so by making the wealthiest few and big corporations pay their fair share.
- The historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act would make life better for millions of Minnesotans, create a generation of good-paying union jobs and economic growth, and position the United States to win the 21st century – while taking real action to fight the climate crisis. Democrats look forward to considering this legislation and making additional improvements to meet the needs of the American people.
