McCollum Statement on Trump Administration's Emergency Supplemental Funding Request

November 17, 2017

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.), Ranking Member of the House Interior-Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement on the Trump administration's third emergency supplemental funding request for relief and recovery from Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria:

"The Trump administration's latest supplemental request is woefully inadequate. I am appalled that the Trump administration wants to make people suffering in Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands wait even longer to rebuild their homes and lives. The request also fails Florida, Texas, and those impacted by the wildfires in California. Our fellow Americans deserve better.

"It is deeply disappointing that the Trump administration is proposing to offset this emergency assistance by attacking other programs, including reckless cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency. Slashing critical investments in our country's water infrastructure as millions of Americans in Puerto Rico are dealing with a public health crisis from sewage spills and contaminated water is shameful. And all Americans should be offended that the Trump administration is using this emergency request to advance its anti-environment agenda and impose more debilitating cuts on the EPA's operating account."
