McCollum Statement in Support of POTUS Request for Supplemental Aid Package
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement ahead of President Biden's arrival in Minnesota, after the president proposed a $33 billion supplemental aid package for Ukraine and encouraged Congress to pass additional COVID-19 funding:
"As Congress has arrived home for its district work period, I am continuing to meet with constituents and work in the district," McCollum said. "We are still battling COVID-19, and I want to acknowledge the work President Biden is doing to make sure that testing and drug therapeutics are available, including getting Paxlovid into the hands of more people who need it. I support the White House's request for urgent COVID-19 funding to keep Americans safe at home, as well as the funding to assist the Ukrainian people. I've worked in my capacity as Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense directly with the Biden administration to continue to provide the needed security and humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine. At the same time, we must continue to give the Ukrainian military and civilian freedom fighters the tools necessary to defend their country against Russia. I look forward to fully examining the president's request for supplemental security and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and working with my colleagues in Congress and the administration to meet this moment. I call on Republicans in Congress to join us in bipartisan unity and help President Biden protect the American people from COVID-19 and defend the innocent people in Ukraine from Russian aggression."
