McCollum Statement in Observance of Memorial Day

May 28, 2021
Press Release

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement ahead of Monday’s observance of Memorial Day:

“On the last Monday in May, we reflect on the sacrifices of the fallen heroes who lost their lives defending our nation at home and abroad. From the first Memorial Day observance at the close of the Civil War, to the heartfelt ceremonies taking place in every American community today, it is important for us to take the time to reflect and consider the price of freedom. Without the brave efforts of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and guardians – and their families – our nation would not continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

“President John F. Kennedy, in speaking of our service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, once said: ‘A nation reveals itself not only by the people it produces – but by those it remembers.’ Today, we remember our fallen.”
