McCollum Statement as House Managers Conclude Case in Trump Impeachment Trial

January 24, 2020

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today as House Managers finished presenting the prosecution's case in the impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump:

"The House Managers of the impeachment trial provided an overwhelming and powerful case of presidential corruption, obstruction, and abuse of power, in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution. The 100 jurors in the U.S. Senate now have a choice to make: protect and defend the Constitution and the integrity of the Presidency, or bury their heads in the sand based on purely partisan and political motivations.

"The president's violation of trust, undermining of our national security interests, and refusal to allow government officials to provide evidence and witness testimony demands a conviction and Mr. Trump's removal from office. If Senate Republicans choose to defend President Trump rather than our Constitution, it will be the American people who stand in judgment in November – and I'm convinced that the American people are a jury that will choose to convict."
