McCollum Statement in Honor of Veterans Day

November 10, 2021
Press Release

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today ahead of tomorrow’s commemoration of Veterans Day:

“On Veterans Day, we take time to honor those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and to recognize their commitment, bravery, and sacrifices to protect the ideals and freedoms we cherish as Americans. We thank all who served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and Space Force. They deserve the support of a grateful nation.

“As America’s longest war came to an end this year, we owe a debt of gratitude to our newest veterans who served so valiantly in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our gratefulness must be reflected in our actions, and that’s why I’m fighting to ensure the availability of high quality, affordable health care; educational and workforce development opportunities that lead to good-paying jobs; and housing for our veterans and their families. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the many mental health stresses it puts on families, we must work harder to provide the mental health care support and resources our veterans need. I’m proud of the work we’ve done in Congress to meet these obligations, and recognize there is much more to be done to fill the gaps.

“We also honor the sacrifices made at home by the families and loved ones of our service members. Our veterans and their families deserve support upon their return home and as they take on new challenges following military service. This Veterans Day, let us renew our commitment to our veterans and their families – and join me in honoring and remembering their service in defending the United States at home and abroad.”
