McCollum Statement On Historic Biden-Harris Inauguration
Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today ahead of the 59th Presidential Inauguration:
“Today, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will officially be sworn in as our new President and Vice President of the United States. These new leaders will not only swear an oath to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution, they will work to make our country and our democracy stronger. The American people are well aware of the challenges facing us: a pandemic, an economic crisis, an education crisis, climate change, racial and social injustice, and a direct internal threat to our democracy and our elected leaders.
“Only two weeks ago, domestic terrorists attacked the U.S. Capitol. We will hold the perpetrators and their sympathizers accountable for this attack on our nation. In order to heal, we must recognize there has been an injury, take the necessary steps to disinfect the wound, and then we can begin to move forward in unity as we usher in a new era of hope for our nation.
“I have chosen to participate in this historic inauguration virtually while working at home in Minnesota. When I return to Washington this week, I’m ready to work with the Biden administration to meet the needs of the American people as we face concurrent crises. With Democratic leadership in the White House, U.S. House, and U.S. Senate, we will work to not only recover from the devastating pandemic and resulting economic crisis – but we will build back better to ensure that no one is left out or left behind.”
