McCollum Statement on Chairwoman Lowey Decision to Not Seek Re-election
U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today after Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY), Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, announced she would not run for re-election in 2020:
“I want to thank Chairwoman Lowey for her strong leadership on the Appropriations Committee and throughout her career in Congress in support of our shared Democratic values. Through her expertise and guidance, Democrats have made historic investments in public education, protecting our environment, expanding health care access, and crafting robust international policy that prioritizes diplomacy and development. In the 116th Congress, she has led the way to honor our constitutional obligation to the American people to fund the federal government adequately and expediently, with the House passing 10 of the 12 Appropriations bills by July. Her leadership has strengthened our country and prepared us to meet the challenges of the future.
“I look forward to working with her during the remainder of the 116th Congress, and I wish her, her husband Stephen, and her children and grandchildren all the best in the years to come.”
