January 31, 2023

Will Continue to Use Spot on Powerful Panel to Deliver for Fourth District Families

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) announced she has been named to serve on the Appropriations Committee in the 118th Congress:

"It is an honor to serve on the Appropriations Committee again this Congress," McCollum said. "I am ready to get back to work using this position to continue delivering for Minnesotans and for all Americans by making strategic investments in our nation's priorities. Alongside my fellow House Democrats, I'm focused on lowering costs, creating better-paying jobs, making our communities safer, and defending our freedoms.

"As the Ranking Democrat on the Defense Subcommittee, I'll continue to work to invest in environmental remediation and combating climate change, and ensuring our U.S. service members have the tools they need to complete their missions and return safely home. My focus remains on keeping America safe, strong, and secure now and into the future."

Background:
In the 118th Congress, Congresswoman McCollum brings a common sense, Minnesota perspective to her work as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee where she serves as the top Democrat on the Defense Subcommittee. McCollum believes national security starts by ensuring that members of our U.S. Armed Forces are the most skilled and best trained and equipped fighting force in the world. Under Chair McCollum's leadership in the last Congress, the committee has prioritized smart investments, including sustaining modernization efforts and giving priority to military health care, ending military sexual assault, and supporting international military-to-military cooperation to prevent conflicts.

McCollum will also serve as the second-ranking Democrat on the Interior-Environment Appropriations Subcommittee. In the 118th Congress, McCollum will prioritize investments in Indian Country and protecting our clean air and water, our wilderness and public lands, and our nation's natural treasures.
