August 1, 2024

Following Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act, McCollum Celebrates Progress While Emphasizing Importance of Advancing Inclusion & Improving Accessibility

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) announced on Thursday that she introduced a bipartisan resolution designating July as Disability Pride Month. The resolution also emphasizes the importance of inclusion and celebrates the contributions to the arts, science, healthcare, technology, sports, education, and law made by people with disabilities.

“Americans with disabilities make extraordinary contributions to our communities every day,” said Congresswoman McCollum. “But as the disability community celebrates these contributions every July, the federal government has yet to formally acknowledge Disability Pride Month. With this resolution, we’re uplifting the accomplishments of a vibrant community while acknowledging there is more work to be done to increase accessibility, enhance visibility, and expand disability rights.”

“At Gillette Children’s, an integral part of our daily work is to advocate for the rights of individuals, especially children, living with a disability. We are grateful for the bipartisan support for Disability Pride Month,” said Barbara Joers, President and CEO of Gillette Children’s.

The resolution is co-led by Rep. Thompson and co-sponsored by Rep. Wexton, Rep. Calvert, Del. Holmes Norton, Rep. Wild, Rep. Smith, Rep. Titus, Rep. Schakowsky, Rep. Moulton, and Rep. Adams.
