McCollum Announces Winner of 2019 Congressional App Challenge
SAINT PAUL, MINN. – Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL – Minn.) congratulates Woodbury High School junior David Wang for winning the annual Fourth Congressional District App Challenge. The app, called SunriseRGB Animation Cycler, was chosen for its creative and technical solution allowing users to custom-program LED light strips in creative ways.
David was inspired to create the app, which accompanies a controller he also designed, after he was unable to find a product with these capabilities already on the market. The app helps people use the controller, which cycles through different lighting animations for addressable LED strips. See video here.
Congresswoman McCollum released the following statement:
“It is a pleasure to congratulate David Wang as the winner of the second annual Fourth Congressional District App Challenge! Judges were impressed with the quality and creativity of this year’s entries,” said Congresswoman McCollum. “The students of Minnesota’s Fourth Congressional District excel in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). All students who entered should be proud of their hard work as well and creative solutions to complex problems. I’m proud to showcase this talent and foster 21st-century workforce skills that encourage students to pursue STEAM-related careers.”
The Congressional App Challenge is a nationwide STEAM competition where students create an application or “app” for desktop/PC, web, tablet, mobile, or other devices. Students and teachers can find information about the competition at mccollum.house.gov.
