Chair McCollum Leads Classified Hearing on U.S. Strategic Command

April 5, 2022

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04), Chair of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, today led a classified hearing with Commander Admiral Charles A. Richard on the posture of the United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM).

USSTRATCOM integrates and coordinates the necessary command and control capability to provide support with the most accurate and timely information for the President, the Secretary of Defense, other national leadership, and combatant commanders. The mission of USSTRATCOM is to deter strategic attack and employ forces, as directed, to guarantee the security of our nation and allies.

Chair McCollum released the following statement:
"I was pleased to welcome Admiral Richard and hear his testimony on the posture of the U.S. Strategic Command amid global challenges," Chair McCollum said. "Developments such as the current Russian nuclear posture, the impact of the Trump administration's withdrawal of the U.S. from the Open Skies Treaty, and the crisis in Ukraine impact our national security strategy, among other strategic threats. As our subcommittee looks ahead toward directing resources within the Fiscal Year 2023 Defense Appropriations bill, it is useful to have the critical insights provided by Admiral Richard in today's hearing."
