McCollum Statement on Appropriations Committee Leadership

October 31, 2019

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement today in response to inquiries regarding the future of the Appropriations Committee leadership after Chairwoman Nita Lowey announced she would not seek re-election in 2020:

"Appropriators are talking and we all have thoughts about the future direction of the committee. We need to be thinking about modernizing the committee. As Democrats, we need to collaborate more in a way that maximizes the talents of all our members to drive our caucus agenda and priorities. At the same time, we need to retain the tradition of bipartisanship that keeps the committee functioning effectively. This is the discussion we need to have as Democratic appropriators and as a caucus. So, I am keeping my options open and at the right time I'll decide whether I get in the race, but right now is too early to make that decision."
