McCollum Statement on Trump Support for Dangerous One-State “Solution”

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) released the following statement on President Donald Trump’s comments that he can “live with” a one-state "solution" in which Israel permanently controls all Palestinian territory and ends the prospect of an independent Palestinian state existing in peace and security with Israel:

“President Donald Trump’s comments abandoning a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians are a gift to extremists who reject a peaceful resolution to this conflict.

“A one-state ‘solution’ would condemn millions of Palestinians to second-class status in Israel, denying them the full rights, dignity, and respect afforded to Israeli citizens. By ending the prospect of eventual Palestinian statehood while ratifying the permanent military occupation of Palestinian territory, a one-state ‘solution’ would make Israel’s future less secure and less democratic.

“Millions of Palestinians and Israelis want peace, security, and a better future. Americans and the world community should stand with them and reject the Trump-Netanyahu one-state disaster.”
