McCollum Statement on Biden Administration Memo Strengthening Accountability for U.S. Military Assistance

Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement on the Biden administration’s National Security Memorandum on Safeguards and Accountability With Respect to Transferred Defense Articles and Defense Services:

“I commend the Biden administration for taking a major step forward with its National Security Memorandum announced today to ensure all recipients of U.S. military assistance, including the Netanyahu government, comply with international law and cooperate in the delivery of humanitarian assistance. Since 2017, I have sponsored legislation that outlines similar transparency and accountability standards to prohibit U.S. dollars from being spent on the military detention of Palestinian children, the annexation of Palestinian lands, and the destruction of Palestinian homes. The requirements outlined in the memorandum will help Congress and the White House ensure U.S. military aid is used in accordance with our U.S. values and international law.”
