McCollum Delivers $60.4 Million for Minnesota Bridges

January 14, 2022

Reps McCollum, Craig, and Phillips, along with Senators Klobuchar and Smith, Helped Pass Historic Law Making the Largest Investment in Infrastructure in American History

Today, Congresswoman Betty McCollum (DFL-Minn.) announced the first round of investments in repairing Minnesota bridges under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act she and four Minnesota Democratic colleagues helped pass into law. All Minnesota Republicans voted against the bill. McCollum's effort delivers $60.4 million for Minnesota to fix bridges this year in FY 2022, part of a total $302.2 million investment over the next five years.

In Minnesota's Fourth Congressional District, this funding will benefit Lafayette Bridge safety improvements – fulfilling a critical need for this major project. Large bridges around the state on I-494, I-94, and Highway 61 will also benefit from these funds.

"My work on this historic Infrastructure Law is about delivering results for our community and my constituents," McCollum said. "Repairing our bridges is about safety and growing our economy by creating and sustaining thousands of jobs all across our state. This critical federal investment will allow commerce to move more efficiently and help us stay connected. I commend Minnesota State House leaders for prioritizing the Lafayette Bridge project, which will now receive these federal funds to make important safety improvements."

The investment announced today is designed to help Minnesota repair local bridges that are critical for getting to school and work, moving commerce, and connecting communities. The Infrastructure Law also includes a separate program designed to support larger bridges through a competitive grant program. Details on that program will be announced at a later date.
