Washington, DC – Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) released the following statement regarding the loss of North St. Paul Police Officer Richard Crittenden :

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of North St. Paul Police Officer Richard Crittenden who is the first officer to die in the line of duty in the department's 122-year history. His death is a deeply painful reminder that our law enforcement officers risk their lives every day on the job.  These brave men and women deserve our highest thanks for their unwavering commitment to protect and defend our communities, including families impacted by domestic violence.

“As a former North St. Paul City Council member, the loss of Officer Crittenden hits hard, as I know it does for all residents.  My prayers go out to Officer Crittenden’s family, loved ones and his fellow police officers.  The entire North St. Paul family grieves for its fallen brother.

“My thoughts are also with the Maplewood Police officer wounded during this tragedy. I wish her a quick and complete recovery.”
